Top packing tips to make Christmas stress free
If being in a brand new home is on your Christmas wish list you know there are some busy months ahead but with a few tips on how to pack you will know exactly where the tinsel is once you move.
Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, who has ten years’ experience in the housing industry, has put together these five tips to make sure removal day is a doddle.
1) Use the right boxes – It is a question of cost whether you buy new, borrow or approach the local supermarket, but for expensive, fragile or sentimental items it is always best to be cautious and buy new.
2) Make sure you have all the packing supplies you need from the start. Pack small items into small boxes and place them in a larger box. Pack heavier items at the bottom. Stuff pillow cases, pairs of socks and scarves into the crevices. Keep your clothes in their drawers. Clearly label all containers and seal them. Bag up screws and bolts and tape them to the underside of furniture so items are easy to rebuild.
3) Keep an inventory of each box and its contents. Label a box ‘Load last’ ‘Load first’ so that you have the essentials you need. Keep important documents with you.
4) Prepare an essentials box of items you will need for your last few nights in your old home and first nights in your new one, including food, clothing, toiletries, kettle, crockery, cutlery, toilet roll, bin bags.
5) Give everyone in the house a ‘to do’ list. It will save on time and energy and make everyone feel a part of the move.
