Warrington’s Kurion Inc. acquires Oxford robotics firm
Kurion Inc., a hazardous waste management firm with a European HQ in Warrington, has announced the acquisition of robotics and remote systems company Oxford Technologies.
The deal will widen Kurion’s capabilities and presence in Europe while expanding the company’s existing robotic systems and services team.
Oxford Technologies’ remote systems are currently in use at a number of nuclear decommissioning sites worldwide, including Sellafield in Cumbria and Dounreay, Scotland.
Steve Park, the MD of Warrington’s economic growth partnership, Warrington & Co, said: “Kurion Inc.’s acquisition of Oxford Technologies is great news as it will complement Kurion Inc.’s existing business and no doubt provide avenues into new business prospects.
“Warrington is now a real powerhouse for nuclear business and it is fantastic that a company with such a respected international reputation such as Kurion Inc. is part of Warrington’s buoyant nuclear industry.”
Based in Birchwood’s Cinnamon Park, Kurion Inc. provides nuclear and hazardous waste management services from eight facilities across the world, including Japan and the US.
The company forms part of a growing nuclear hub in Warrington, with over 20% of the area’s office space taken up by companies in the sector. That figure is expected to grow following the announcement in Chancellor George Osborne’s Autumn Statement that Birchwood has been granted Enterprise Zone status.
