Children stay safe and seen with SCA

SCA Prudhoe Mill has donated Prudhoe West First School a selection of mini hi-vis safety jackets to keep the children safe and seen on their outings.

Head teacher, Carrie Davison, said: “The Hi-Vis vests are the perfect way to keep the children safe during our trips out. The children are looking forward to wearing them for the first time to our annual Christmas pantomime trip and carol service.

“The jackets mean we can always see where they are and know that they won’t be in danger from on-coming traffic when walking next to the road. We can’t thank SCA enough for its generosity in helping us to keep the children safe.”

The donation from SCA, a leading hygiene and forest products company, whose household tissue brands include Velvet, Cushelle and Plenty, celebrates its first-ever Global Safety Week, part of a raft of company-wide measures to achieve SCA’s ambitious vision to reduce the number of work-place accidents to zero.

Simon Hobson, safety specialist at SCA Prudhoe Mill, said: “In the winter months the daylight hours shorten, it’s vital that young children are visible to motorists and their teachers on school trips. Hi-Vis vests are an essential part of our safety kit on site and ideal for the children when walking alongside busy roads and keeping a large group recognisable so that they stay together.

“SCA places great importance on safety training and the main aim of our Global Safety Week is to raise awareness. Sharing this message with the children at Prudhoe West reinforces the importance of staying safe to family and friends too. Health and safety not only affects employees but also those closest to them.”

The SCA Global Safety Week is an addition to an already existing company-wide program to promote safety and best practice across the business.
