McCarthy’s set to expand in Wakefield just after seven months
A Wakefield self storage facility is set to undergo an expansion only seven months after first opening.
After opening in May, McCarthy’s Storage World only converted a section of the two story, 40,000 sq ft premises into storage units, which is standard practice in the industry. £2m was spent on the purchase and renovation.
Now, with 70% of the existing space taken, work is about to start on converting more of the building’s empty storage units. Once the works are complete, it will be home to more than 300 storage units, ranging in size from a phone box to a tennis court.
Around 50% of the current customers are businesses, with the remainder individuals and households. Businesses which have taken space in the storage centre include professional services firms and hospitals using it for document storage.
Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s Storage World, said: “We’ve been delighted with how well the storage facility has been received by the people and businesses of Wakefield. We didn’t expect to be converting extra room so quickly, but customers have been asking for more space, and for bigger and purpose built units, which we’re happy to oblige with.
“Businesses use us for storing stock or equipment, which can be seasonal, or we provide flexible and cost-effective space for the ever increasing number of internet/eBay businesses, who don’t necessarily have an office.
“For individuals it tends to be when people are moving house, renovating or decluttering, or to store items linked to hobbies like sports or band practice! Customers like the fact that they have a one off monthly fee including rates, rent and utilities, with no hidden extras and no fixed term contracts. This gives peace of mind at stressful times when people are moving home or for businesses looking to expand or contract as their requirements change in line with demand.”
McCarthy’s opened its first self storage centre in Leeds 10 years ago, and then in 2012 it was followed by Harrogate.
A family-owned business which has been running for 45 years, McCarthy’s also offers residential and commercial removal services, and a range of business services including serviced offices, archived storage and confidential document shredding.
