Yorkshire Christmas catch-up: Kristopher Johnson, director of Ti Installations
With Christmas fast approaching, and the businesspeople of Yorkshire preparing to hang up their stockings for the holiday, Bdaily is continuing its December interview series with Kristopher Johnson, director of Ti Installations Ltd – an electrical, security and audio specialist.
As you already know, we at Bdaily love to bring our readers closer to the stories we write. So this month, we’re asking the questions we don’t usually get a chance to ask - giving you the opportunity to learn more about the people behind the businesses you often read about.
Ti Installations had a very strong 2015, and just recently the Huddersfield-based businesssecured a five figure contract in the South of England. The three week project, in central Cheltenham, is part of a wider contract to transform a disused retail unit into a high end hairdressing salon.
So now Bdaily is catching up with Kristopher about this past year, the christmas holidays and what is in store for Ti Installations in 2016.
Your Business
What were the highlights for your business in 2015?
Completing the company’s biggest job to date – a 26 week project in Wokingham, where we helped transform a 3-storey redundant office building into residential apartments. We were appointed by the main contractor Tandem Contracts to deliver full electrical wiring services, fire alarms, door entry systems, external lighting and TV aerials. We received fantastic feedback from the client and have already secured more work with them, into 2016.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently this year?
Aside from remembering to top up one of our main vans with oil – that was an expensive mistake –I think we’ve made some wise decisions, so there’s little I’d change.
What’s in store for your company in 2016?
It looks like we’re going to have a busy start to 2016, which is great as January can be notoriously quiet in our sector. Retail is a big market for us at present – there is a sign of resilience on the high street, which is encouraging for the wider economy, and the level of work we look set to take on in the New Year will hopefully lead to expansion of our team.
We also have plans in the pipeline to launch an online store, enabling us to sell some of our most popular security technology, in particular.
Your favourites
Have any other Yorkshire companies caught your eye this year? If so- why?
Poundworld, a well-known national retailer, with headquarters in Normanton. They have continued to expand this year, at a growing pace, creating job opportunities throughout Yorkshire and beyond. They are a fantastic brand and one which our county should be proud of.
When business life gets on top of you, what do you do to distress?
I enjoy playing 5-a side football with friends, playing golf and walking my two dogs. I also try to take time out with my family, and I wouldn’t say no to a pint in the local pub, or a good film in front of the fire.
Who has been your favourite social media personality this year? Any accounts stood out for you?
@securityhour1 – it’s relevant to our industry of course, but it is also a great source of advice and tips for people wanting to protect their valuable assets.
The what ifs
If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?
I honestly don’t think I would change the job I have. I never wake up wishing I didn’t have to go to work, but if I could fast forward to making our first million, that would be nice!
If you could go back in time, which piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Have the confidence to ‘go it alone’ a little quicker, and don’t be afraid to ask questions – nobody knows everything and you should never be embarrassed of being wanting to learn more about the industry you are in.
What would be the perfect Christmas gift for you?
A feast for as many family and friends as I could fit around the table!
Thanks for your time Kristopher, Merry Christmas for the Bdaily team!
