Foundation thanks supporters at Glass Centre

Foundation of Light thanked its supporters and celebrated a fantastic year for the charity at a glittering event at one of Wearside’s most iconic buildings.

Donor Drinks 2015, sponsored by wealth management experts Brewin Dolphin, was attended by individuals and corporates on Wednesday evening at Sunderland’s National Glass Centre.

Guests enjoyed a festive carols performance from East Herrington Primary Academy Choir during a canapé reception before taking their seats in the Glass Centre’s Brasserie for the event hosted by BBC Look North’s Jeff Brown.

Sunderland AFC Assistant Manager Paul Bracewell took to the stage to answer questions on the Black Cats season so far and looked ahead to the rest of the campaign before guests were given a glimpse into the evolution of the Beacon of Light project by architects FaulknerBrowns.

Members of the Voices Together Choir rounded off the evening with a rousing performance of Christmas favourites while guests mingled with SAFC legend Jimmy Montgomery and senior staff from the Foundation of Light including Charity Leader of the Year, CEO Lesley Spuhler.

Foundation of Light’s Events Coordinator Jemma Garrett, said: “Donor Drinks is Foundation of Light’s opportunity to say a huge thank you to our many supporters and look back on a fantastic 2015 for the organisation.

“As a charity we rely on the support of community spirited individuals such as those in attendance tonight to help us make such a positive difference to the North East.

“We would also like to thank our special guest Paul Bracewell for coming along to give an insight into Sunderland AFC, as well as our brilliant host Jeff Brown, the fantastic National Glass Centre, University of Sunderland and Brewin Dolphin for helping make the event possible.”

The evening also saw the Foundation announce the Innovation Partner Club, an exclusive group of businesses who are committed to making a difference in the their local communities and help fund the development of specific Foundation of Light programmes. This support will allow the Foundation’s team of specialist staff to research and develop diverse projects and develop the best possible delivery to achieve an even greater positive impact in the North East.
