Nicholson’s Transport to create new jobs with 2016 Darlington warehouse launch
Billingham-based Nicholson’s Transport has announced that it will open a 15,000sq ft warehouse near Darlington, early next year.
Designed to tackle growing demand from customers across the Darlington and County Durham region, the expansion will create three new jobs and improve efficiency by increasing capacity at its existing 55,000 sq ft warehouse.
Managing Director David Nicholson said: “This has been a year of growth for Nicholson’s Transport and for the first time we are employing almost 60 staff.
“There has been a significant increase in our Darlington customer base and we made a sensible decision to open an additional warehouse to better service those clients.
“But it also means that we can improve efficiency at our main site in Billingham, freeing up capacity there so that all of our customers can experience the same high levels of service.”
A significant part of the warehouse will service Nicholson’s pick and pack customers who want to outsource their logistics so they can ship goods quickly around the country without having to open their own warehouse. Pick and pack involves the outsourcing of storage, order processing and deliveries and has been used by everyone from e-Bay sellers and bathroom suite businesses to crisp and soft drinks manufacturers.
David Nicholson set up his business in 1987 with just himself and a truck but now employs around 56 people with a fleet of 25 vehicles. The business has recruited several new drivers this year to meet increasing demand.
Mr Nicholson added: “We are proud of being a successful North East company and want to promote the sector and the region. Our focus and ethos are all around family values and investment in training and that has resonated with a lot of customers as we have expanded into Darlington and across County Durham.
“The new warehouse presents the potential for further growth and an opportunity to improve the efficiency of everything that we do, which translates to better service and value for our customers.”
