ZyXEL one of first to deliver VDSL2 devices

ZyXEL is one of the first CPE vendors to have its modem products conform to BT’s Modem Conformance Testing (MCT) for VDSL2 self-install devices.

The move by ZyXEL to accredit the Wireless N VMG8324-B10A and Dual-Band Wireless AC/N VMG8924-B10A devices comes as the need for engineer installs and two box solutions decreases rapidly. User self installations are now becoming the norm – as they remove the hassle of organising a costly engineer visit.

ZyXEL’s VMG8924-B10A and VMG8324-B10A modems enable ISPs to break their reliance on costly engineer installations for modems. Moreover, they provide greater choice for ISPs in delivering a self-install fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) services to customers. Both devices support ADSL2+, meaning ISPs can deploy them to ADSL2+ customers without having to invest in, or replace, with new customer devices when they migrate from ADSL2+ to VDSL2. They also both feature dedicated Ethernet WAN ports, which support Gigabit throughput, so ISPs can roll out to FTTH or LTE customers.

The VMG8924-B10A features 802.11ac technology to provide wireless data rates of up to 1.3 Gbps, while the VMG8324-B10A features 802.11n delivers up to 300 Mbps. Both devices provide stable, reliable wireless connections for high-speed data and multimedia usages. The 802.11ac/n technology empowers the devices to eliminate dead zones and extend coverage while retaining backward compatibility with any Wi-Fi certified device.

With Quality of Service (QoS) features, service providers can freely design their QoS policies and prioritise the mission-critical services such as IPTV and VoIP, based on their service plan offerings. This increases network efficiency and productivity that enable service providers to offer a real multi-play solution meeting the needs of residential users.

“Our focus for accrediting the VMG8324-B10A and VMG8924-B10A modems was to enable ISPs to continue to provide FTTC services to consumers and decrease the reliance on expensive Openreach engineer installs and undesirable two box solution,.” says Alan Turner, ZyXEL Service Provider Product Manager UK & Ireland. “With these ZyXEL modems, service providers now have the option of providing FTTC consumers with two high performance and cost effective modems with the crucial flexibility of the self-install option”.
