Billingham water management company in industry first initiative
Billingham-based Biochemica UK Ltd has become the first UK firm in the water management industry to sign up to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative with over 12,000 signatories in 170 countries..
Signing the agreement cements Biochemica’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Dave Ruddy, Managing Director at Biochemica, said: “Corporate sustainability begins with a company’s value system and an ethical approach to doing business.
“Biochemica has a strong set of core values which underpin our strategies, policies and procedures to unite and focus our business in achieving our goals. Many of our existing core values are parallel to the Ten Principles, so it was a natural fit for us to declare our commitment.”
The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact lays out universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption which participant companies must align their strategies and operations with.
The UN Global Compact states that companies incorporating its principles into their ethos and establishing a culture of integrity are not only upholding their basic responsibilities to people and the planet, but also setting the stage for long-term success.
Dave added: “Our existing and prospective client base - and especially those within the public sector, wants to see that we are fully embracing social responsibility and supporting our local community.
“As the first water management company in the UK chemical sector to make a pledge to support these principles, we will strive to set the industry standard and lead the way in delivering value across society.”
