December’s North East spotlight series: Dominic Edmunds

Dominic Edmunds, CEO of Sunderland-based firm SaleCycle, which works with the worldwide brands to reconnect them with customers online, takes time out from the day job to take part in our festive spotlight series.

Your business

What were the highlights for your business in 2015?

Thankfully there were quite a few! Moving into new offices to accommodate our growth and breaking through the 100 employee mark were real landmark moments. It was also pretty special to see that our employee

Glassdoor.co.uk reviews has lead to us being rated as the UK’s no.1 tech company to work for.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently this year?

Absolutely, hindsight is 20/20. That said, it’s important to realise that you can’t influence yesterday, only how you react and what you decide to do next.

Is there anything we should watch out for your company doing next year?

We’re investing significantly in the business and expect to see our workforce break through the 200 very quickly as we fully exploit each of our current territories and look to develop new ones.

Your favourites

Have any other North East companies impressed you this year, if so - why?

Creative North came into our offices recently and I was really struck by what they are doing to keep the creative industry in this area fresh with new talent. I’m also very encouraged with the entrepreneurial spirit being shown across the North East and was privileged to be part of the Tech North Northern Stars event (albeit virtually) which showcased some tremendous start-ups.

When business life gets on top of you, what do you do to destress?

I’ve learned over the past 5 years that your decision making can be impaired if you do let work fully take over. I’m a family man and love nothing more than spending time with my wife and children, in fact I can easily name 4 or 5 business initiatives that have come to me when being on vacation, the perspective that emotional and physical distance allows you is not to be underrated. I’m also a regular lunch-hour-runner, which is a great way to reset yourself mid-way through the day and to clear your head.

Have any social media accounts caught your eye this year, any favourite pages or people to follow? (*cough* Bdaily *cough* *cough*)

Haha of course! I always find Econsultancy, ClickZ and The Drum are sharing really interesting and, more importantly, usable marketing insights.

The what ifs

If you could do any job in the world what would it be?

Ok this one might throw up a few surprises for even the people I work closely with, so I’d either be a boxer (l’m talking a really good boxer, I’m thinking Sugar Ray Leonard level) or maybe a marine biologist studying Great White Sharks.

If you could go back in time, which piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Wow, this is tricky… I’d probably tell myself to take more risks in the business world and to focus on what ‘actually’ matters. There are so many distractions on time and focus that are ultimately not important.

What would be the perfect Christmas gift for you?

I’d settle for Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat if you’re offering?

Thanks Dominic!
