Yorkshire Christmas catch-up: Document Logic’s Simon Wood

As Christmas is only a day away, and the businesspeople of Yorkshire are waiting in anticipation for Santa’s arrival, Bdaily is continuing its December interview series with Simon Wood, founder and managing director of Document Logic.

As you already know, we at Bdaily love to bring our readers closer to the stories we write. So this month, we’re asking the questions we don’t usually get a chance to ask - giving you the opportunity to learn more about the people behind the businesses you often read about.

Established in 2002, the York-based company began life as a Xerox reseller and has now become an established provider of high-quality print management services across Yorkshire and beyond.

Your business

What were the highlights for your business in 2015?

We have had a really exciting year. We’ve had some new recruits, new products to strengthen our customer offering and a stronger marketplace to do business in. We have also formed some new working partnerships to help us bolster areas where we needed additional support, which means we can deliver better products and services to our customers.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently this year?

With hindsight, I would have acted sooner to put in place the relationships which are supporting our development as a business.

What’s in store for your company in 2016?

We are very excited about working in partnership with a marketing company, and for the first time in our history we have a really well-developed marketing strategy, which is going to support us in reaching out to new customers and making us a brand name within Yorkshire.

Your favourites

Have any other Yorkshire companies caught your eye this year? If so - why?

Taylors of Harrogate. I love the way they have put Yorkshire and great products together, a great success story for Yorkshire. And I love Yorkshire Gold!

When business life gets on top of you, what do you do to destress?

A pint in my local pub: simple, but effective. There’s nothing better than a pint in a country pub with friends, talking about everything but business, to destress you.

Who has been your favourite social media personality this year? Any accounts stood out for you?

Unfortunately my time is limited and I have yet to fully engage with social media. Most of my feeds come from our partners at Xerox, which helps us stay up to speed on what developments are coming down the line and what our customers want.

The what ifs

If you could do any job in the world what would it be?

I was listening to Bob Bubka on Talk Sport the other morning. He travels around the world commentating on golf tournaments, and I thought at the time that’s a job I would like!

If you could go back in time, which piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Be bolder. Have the strength in your convictions, be positive and confident and believe in yourself and your ideas.

What would be the perfect Christmas gift for you?

A bottle of Jack Daniels.

Thanks for your time Simon, Merry Christmas from the Bdaily team.
