70k passengers to fly from Leeds Bradford Airport over the Christmas/New Year period

Leeds Bradford Airport will be expecting to welcome more passengers over the forthcoming Christmas and New Year break than in previous years.

The airport is expecting 70k passengers will fly through the airport over the two-week festive break.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford® Airport’s Aviation Development Director, commented: “We expect this to be the busiest Christmas and New Year getaway for the airport as thousands of passengers take advantage of the convenience of flying from Leeds Bradford escaping the congestion on the road and rail network and fly off on a well earned sun, city or ski holiday over the festive period.

“The most popular sun and ski destinations for passengers jetting off this Christmas are the Canary Islands and Geneva (for the French Alps). For city lovers Amsterdam and Gdansk and very popular whilst those travelling closer to home are choosing to let the plane take the strain as they fly to London, Southampton, Belfast and Scotland.”

As for 2016, Leeds Bradford has already announced 2 new airlines, Vueling flying to Barcelona and Aurigny linking Yorkshire with Guernsey. In addition KLM will now operate 4 weekday services to Amsterdam and Eastern Airways will also fly an increased frequency of 4 weekday services to Southampton.

2015 has been a record year for the airport with a record 3.4m passengers flying from LBA. With increased frequencies on offer next summer across a wider range of leisure services with Jet2, Ryanair, Monarch and Thomson the airport is aiming to further grow in passenger numbers in 2016.
