Over half a million pound to be distributed to Yorkshire Housing Zones
Today, Housing Zones across the country will receive funding from the government that will help start work to build tens of thousands of new homes on brownfield sites.
Almost £6.3m is being distributed to help revive brownfield sites across the country to help speed up the delivery of thousands of homes for families and first-time buyers.
The funding, which comes on top of a £1.2bn Starter Home Fund designed to prepare brownfield sites for at least 30,000 new homes, is being delivered to 20 flagship Housing Zones, two of which are based in the Yorkshire region.
The City of York Council will receive a £365k grant to help deliver the York Central Housing Zone, whereas Wakefield Council will also be given a £261k grant to go towards the Housing Zone that covers the Aire River Growth Corridor.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said: “Housing Zones offer enormous potential to use brownfield land for new homes which is why this government is determined to get them built out as soon as possible.
“This funding will play an important part in getting work underway which will lead to new homes and more security for aspiring homeowners.”
