Autonomy's Priceless For New Hampshire Insurance Business

A desire for autonomy and a commitment to professionalism and integrity have been the forces behind a commercial insurance specialist and ex Lloyd’s of London broker’s decision to start his own business in partnership with Leeds-based commercial insurance broker and risk manager, Gauntlet Group.

Matthew Price has launched his new business, Gauntlet Price, from a base in Emsworth in Hampshire and is focusing primarily on all classes of SME commercial business and insurance protection for high net worth individuals.

As an appointed representative of Gauntlet, Matthew is already working with clients across Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex, Surrey and London. As a qualified DIP CII insurance professional, he is providing them with high quality advice, whilst also assuring them that he will be on hand to assist them round-the-clock.

Matthew has long had the desire to build his own insurance broking business, having most recently worked for a larger national broker and suffered the frustrations of not having autonomy over decision-making. He contemplated making the move to becoming self-employed two years ago, to draw on career experience acquired in the Lloyd’s of London market over the course of seven years.

When a recruiter advised him of the opportunity available with Gauntlet, he overcame the doubts and worries about moving from a salaried position to becoming his own boss and took up the opportunity. He is now seeing two months of hard work spent building his business paying off and receiving numerous referrals.

Matthew chose to brand his business as Gauntlet Price, recognising that Gauntlet’s reputation could assist his business growth. Whilst he builds the business, Gauntlet’s AR support team manage functions such as money handling, claims, IT and marketing on his behalf, enabling him to concentrate on core areas that are vital to his business’s success, such as networking and sales. This was why Gauntlet ticked all the boxes for him and why it has given him the autonomy he craved, but also the backing that comes from an organisation of Gauntlet’s stature.

Matthew says: “I’ve already experienced the reward of approaching a client speculatively, going through the sales process and then being given the client’s instruction to proceed with arranging cover. That was a great feeling in these early days of running my own business.

“I am delighted to have enough time to dedicate to clients to ensure they get the very best service and insurance coverage available. This means my clients will receive a positive client experience and, more importantly, that all the risks and exposures that could threaten their business’s stability are adequately and comprehensively insured. Time to do this is difficult to find in the modern insurance sector, in which every ounce of resource is squeezed, so I believe my clients will get a better service than they will often find elsewhere.”

Despite devoting a lot of time and effort to his new business, Matthew is going to find time to run the London Marathon in 2016, for charity and will continue to pursue his hobby of scuba diving.
