John Lennon Airport kicks off 2016 with new European route
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has announced that Hungarian carrier Wizz Air will launch a new service to Budapest in 2016.
Operating twice weekly, the new service will fly out from LJLA on Wednesdays and Sundays from March.
The air service development manager at LJLA, Paul Winfield, said: “This further commitment by Wizz Air to operations from Liverpool is a further sign of the progress we have been making over the past 12 months and links yet another important European capital city with Liverpool that will have benefits for both business and leisure travellers
“We are committed to increasing the range of destinations served from Liverpool to give travellers from across the North West more opportunities to fly from the fastest, easiest, friendliest airport in the region.”
Wizz Air first launched its LJLA operations in 2004 and today offers flights from Liverpool to Warsaw and Gdansk in Poland, as well as the Latvian capital, Riga.
The Budapest service announcement follows news last month that LJLA was preparing for one of the busiest Christmas periods in its history, ending 2015 with passenger numbers around 8% higher than the previous year.
