New 75,000 sq ft gym and retail development coming to Preston
A new fitness centre and shops are set to launch in Preston after local authorities granted planning permission for a mixed-use development in the town.
Architecture firm Cassidy + Ashton and the retail planning team at estate agency Savills were given the go-ahead for the Fulwood scheme, which comprises a gym, four retail units and four kiosk units encompassing 75,347 sq ft of space.
Cassidy + Ashton’s associate director, Neil Dermott, said: “As a local firm with a lot of commercial and leisure experience, we understand the complexities of the retail landscape in Preston and were able to bring that knowledge into our planning advice for this scheme.
“The development will provide excellent opportunities for larger retailers to move onto a prime site and we’re hopeful that this decision will be a catalyst to continued improvements to retail facilities across all areas of the city.”
The minds behind the development are expecting to announce a national food retailer for the scheme in the coming weeks.
Matthew Sobic, associate director at Savills, said: “The proposal is positive economic investment in Preston that will deliver retail and leisure facilities in a sustainable location and complement and enhance the existing offer of the city.
“The proposal will deliver a high quality designed retail warehouse destination that will serve existing and new residential areas that are planned to the north of Preston.”
