GMB’s Northern Arm stretches out to Billingham
The northern arm of GMB, one of the UK’s largest trade unions, has acquired 1,850 sq ft office space at Belasis Business Park in Billingham.
Sanderson Weatherall, the Teesside-based chartered surveyor and property consultancy, acted as agent for the sale, on behalf of chartered financial planning firm Fairstone.
Billy Coates, GMB Northern regional secretary, said: “GMB Northern is pleased to purchase the property at Belasis Business Park. The one storey modern office accommodation and its interior layout is ideally suited to GMB’s operational needs.”
Situated in the centre of Tees Valley Belasis Business Park sits two miles from the A19.
Billy added: “The premises are also strategically situated to provide effective and efficient service provision to GMB members in the Durham and Tees area.”
The GMB has more than 639,000 members across the country, with 70,000 in the northern region including Teesside. Its members work in nearly all industrial sectors including retail, security, schools, distribution and the utilities, social care, the NHS and ambulance service and local government.
Craig Stobbart, associate partner at Sanderson Weatherall, commented on the deal: “The GMB Union is a high profile organisation, so for us to be involved in a project that gives it a base in the Durham and Tees area is a great opportunity.
“This property is ideally positioned and benefits from excellent facilities, so we are very happy to have sold the site to the Union, allowing it to expand its presence in the region.”
