Masterchef Semi-finalist joins the team at River Café on the Tyne

David Garlinge has over 10 years experience in the restaurant industry, and was a semi-finalist in Masterchef: The Professionals 2013, as well as having worked with notable chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Jason Atherton at Maze and Pollen Street Social in London, North East favourites The Raby Hunt and The Orangery at Rockcliffe Hall, and most recently Houndgate Townhouse in Darlington.

Says David: “I was looking for a new challenge and River Café on the Tyne appealed to me - not just because of the fact that they are a 4 times Michelin Bib Gourmand Award winning restaurant - or because of their stunning location looking out over the mouth of the Tyne, but also because of their commitment to building their seasonal menu around the freshest produce available which is something I am very passionate about.

“I’m looking forward to putting my own stamp on what is obviously a very successful business and hopefully providing the loyal clientele, as well as new customers, with something a bit different including examples of the amazing produce that the rest of the world has to offer.”

Says Paul Scott, owner of River Café on the Tyne along with Michelle Dickie;

“We are really excited to have David on board and the team are looking forward to seeing what he has to offer. We have been on the lookout for a new chef for some time, and David totally fits the bill.

We continue to be totally focused on creating a great customer experience with excellent food at value for money prices, and are certain that David, with his impressive track record, will be able to help us deliver this with flair and panache.“

River Café is developing a growing reputation for events such as the Food & Wine evenings (whereby an expert pairs the wine to the menu created by their chefs, and hosts the evening to explain about the wine he has chosen) and also their Beer & Bait Nights (dishes recreated from around the world with the beers sourced to complement the menu.)

The team at River Café on the Tyne are looking forward to working with David to develop these evenings further, and are excited to see what David will bring to the table.

River Café is open Tuesday 5:00pm - 9:30pm, Wednesday – Saturday noon – 3pm & 5pm – 9.30pm and Sunday noon – 4pm
