Digital music provider 7digital seals eMusic contract
7digital, the digital music and radio company, has announced it is to power the relaunch of American online music platform eMusic.
The deal will see the London-based technology company providing eMusic customers with access to its global catalogue of over 40 million licensed tracks, as well as offering rights holder reporting. eMusic will also be given access to 7digital’s extensive library of hi-resolution lossless audio in both 16-bit and 24-bit FLAC formats.
Cloud computing company Triplay acquired eMusic in October 2015, making it one of the largest digital music services in the world after Apple’s iTunes and Amazon.
Simon Cole, Chief Executive Officer at 7digital, had high hopes for the deal, commenting: “TriPlay has an exciting plan for building innovative and compelling features into their newly acquired service and we are proud to be a part of it.
“The pioneering eMusic brand and existing user base have a strong value that upholds the spirit of independent music and cultivates service diversity in the marketplace.
“It is great that TriPlay see the opportunity behind bringing this service back to the forefront and are actively working to improve the listening experience with the support of our platform”.
It has been a strong year for 7digital who today announced that licensing revenues were up to £6.5m in 2015, an increase of 21% on the previous 12 months.
