Leaders, managers urged to attend business ethics event

In collaboration with the North East Initiative on Business Ethics (NIBE), Northumbria University’s Newcastle Business School is hosting a joint event with the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The free event will be held at the Business School on Feb 2nd from 17:00 pm and is expected to attract a range of business leaders, executive and non-executive directors, and managers with an interest or responsibility in ethics.

It will include key speakers discussing:

  • Why business ethics matters today: Professor Ron Beadle BSc (Econ), MSc (Econ), PhD - Northumbria University
  • Examination of the CII’s Code of Ethics: Sandra McDonald - Chartered Insurance Institute
  • Investigating ethical investment strategies: Chris King Dip PFS - EdenTree Investment Management
  • Training for Non-Executive Directors: Prof Philip Shrives BA (Hons), MAcc, PhD, FCA, FHEA - Northumbria University

Professor Philip Shrives, Head of Department, Accounting and Financial Management at Newcastle Business School, said: “We are delighted to be working with NIBE and the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne to host this is event, which I’m sure will be relevant and of value to businesses of all sizes and from all sectors. At Newcastle Business School we have incorporated ethics in our teaching programmes for Accounting, Finance for around ten or more years. We strongly believe that ethical business is good business and that it should not take a financial crisis or a corporate governance crisis or even any other crisis to spur us into action.
