Liverpool Costcutter to expand with Post Office facility

A Costcutter convenience store that opened in Liverpool last month with a six-figure loan from The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is set to expand with the launch of a new Post Office facility.

The Burlington Street shop’s co-owners, Paul Collett and Stephen Lysaght, established the business in December with a £310k loan facility, creating six new jobs. Now, the pair are making moves to increase footfall with a new in-store Post Office opening on Monday (January 25).

Paul and Stephen launched the Costcutter when their Liverpool butchery business, which traded for 19 years, closed down after receiving a Compulsory Purchase Order.

Paul said: “Through our butchery business we have got to know the local community really well and we look forward to continuing these relationships by providing a convenience store and a much needed Post Office service for our customers to utilise.

“The Royal Bank of Scotland has sound knowledge of the Costcutter business model and what startup costs are involved so they were well placed to back our new venture.”

He continued: “Business has been very busy over the Christmas period and we are confident this will continue once the Post Office side is open in the next week.

“Both Stephen and I have enjoyed learning and qualifying as Postmasters and we are eager to put our skills to use.”

The store plans to hire an additional member of staff once the Post Office facility gains momentum.

RBS senior relationship manager Liz Williamson commented: “We have assisted many Costcutter stores to open in the North West and delighted we could support Paul and Stephen.

“We are confident they will transfer their retail expertise to make their first Costcutter store and Post Office facility a huge success.”
