Gisborough Hall is ‘Simply the Guest’
Gisborough Hall has been named as one of the best hotels in the North East and North Yorkshire by its guests.
The four star hotel, on the outskirts of Guisborough in North Yorkshire, has clinched ‘Top Rated Hotel’ status by Laterooms.com’s Simply the Guest Awards 2016, the only UK hotel awards based just on genuine guest reviews.
Now in their third year, the awards recognise only those hotels with review ratings of 80% or higher. The site has over two million guest reviews and these awards reward the hotels offering the best guest experiences.
Gisborough Hall, which at the end of last year unveiled its new rooms and suites following a £400,000 investment, was praised for its high levels of customer service and friendly team, good food and Yorkshire breakfasts, its traditional setting and open fires, spacious and comfortable rooms and also its convenient location for business or leisure.
The 19th century hotel is home to two AA Rosette restaurant ‘Chaloner’s’, a Revival Zone spa, 71 bedrooms and ‘G’ Bar and Bistro, as well as a ballroom, conservatory and events’ spaces and its traditional drawing room and inner hall.
Kim Yardley, general manger of Gisborough Hall, said: “This accolade is a lovely start to 2016 for the team at Gisborough Hall. It’s even more of a boost as the awards are based purely on guest reviews- and our guests are our most crucial critics. We do try to constantly evolve and, as such, our programme of investment is continuing this year but it is also very important that we remain true to our past with all of our much loved traditional features.
“Awards such as this give guests real peace of mind when choosing a hotel and what’s very encouraging to see is the mix of excellent reviews from both leisure and business guests. In addition, we also seem to be attracting more guests from not just the North of England but further afield too, including America and Japan which is brilliant for our wonderful region.”
Andrea Tarpey, from Laterooms.com, said: “The LateRooms.com Simply the Guest Awards have become a highlight of the travel and hotel calendar since they were launched. Because all reviews on the LateRooms.com site come only from customers who have genuinely booked and stayed at the property, Top Rated status is now a trusted benchmark amongst those looking for a hotel where they know they can be confident of a truly outstanding stay.
“According to our guests, Gisborough Hall is one of the top hotels in the UK and to receive the honour of a Top Rated status in this year’s awards reveals its standards are at the very top of the league in all areas.”
Gisborough Hall dates back to 1857 and the grade II-listed country house was fully restored in 2002 following an investment of over £10 million by the Gisborough family, who privately own the hotel itself. The hotel is now also a Macdonald Associate hotel.
The country hall now employs a team of 105 local people across the hotel, a number which has steadily increased in the last year thanks to the refurbishment as afternoon teas, corporate events and dinners and international tourism all continue to thrive.
Head chef, Jason Moore, returned to Gisborough Hall as head chef last year, having travelled around the UK and Europe working at a variety of locations and assisting with Yorkshire-based Provenance Inns’ gastro-pub openings all over the region. Jason, from Guisborough, has cooked for many VIPs including members of the Royal Family, MPs and footballers and originally joined Gisborough Hall in 2008. He is also well known for his appearances at shows and exhibitions including the Harrogate Flower Show, York Festival of Food and Drink, the Great Yorkshire Show and the Scarborough Food Fair.
Other accolades for Gisborough Hall include a Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards 2015 finalist and a ‘Gold’ award holder in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
