Homebuilder raises more than £80,000 for children’s charity

A Yorkshire homebuilder has raised a significant sum of money for a national charity that grants wishes of youngsters with life threatening illnesses.

Strata has raised more than £80,000 for When You Wish Upon a Star to help make dreams come true for children across Yorkshire and beyond.

Staff, supply chain and friends of Strata took part in the year-long fundraising efforts which included, among others, the Major Series obstacle course, the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and a 47-mile bike ride between developments. The highlight was a Charity Summer Ball with more than 700 guests.

The total amount raised was match funded by the Doncaster-based company.

The campaign was spearheaded by the company’s Charity and Events Manager, Leonie Weaver.

Leonie said: “We are very proud to have contributed to fundraising for When You Wish Upon a Star. It has been an action-packed year of fantastic events. We’ve been thrilled by the response from all our staff and supply chain and now look forward to allocating the money raised to fulfil the wishes of some very courageous children.”

Strata presented a cheque for the full amount on Monday 21 December to Joanne Wright, Area Manager for When You Wish Upon a Star. Wishes include magical parties and days out, to family trips to Center Parcs or even Walt Disney World in Florida.

Joanne said: “The Strata team has put a huge amount of effort into raising money for the charity this year. The highlight of the year had to be their fundraising Ball, which was a fantastic night and one which raised a huge amount of money. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Strata and I would like to thank them for all their efforts on behalf of the exceptionally special children who will benefit from having their dreams come true.”
