Liverpool Marriott raises thousands for British Heart Foundation
Liverpool Marriott Hotel has raised more than £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation after donating mattresses to the charity’s stores across the city.
The British Heart Foundation, which looks to raise awareness of heart disease prevention in the UK, partnered with the hotel after new beds were fitted in some of the rooms.
Rather than being destroyed, the high quality mattresses were given to the local charity shops to sell on to Liverpool residents, raising thousands of pounds for the Foundation while also saving twelve tonnes of material from going to landfill.
The initiative forms part of the hotel’s ‘spirit to serve’ ethos, a commitment to giving back to the local community and minimising the affects of wastage on the environment.
Ludwig Duweke, general manager at Liverpool Marriott Hotel, said: “The British Heart Foundation does some fantastic work to better our understanding of heart disease and we’re very pleased to have been able to raise this amount of money for them.
“Who knew such a simple process as replacing some of our beds could lead to such a good outcome, in the process we’ve been able to contribute to our local community and avoid any negative impacts on the environment, which is very important to us.”
Debra Day, Area Stock Generator at the British Heart Foundation, added: “We’re very grateful to Liverpool Marriott Hotel for doing what they can to raise funds for The British Heart Foundation. Rather than allowing the mattresses to go to waste, the staff at the hotel took it upon themselves to ensure they went to good use, and it’s this kind of initiative that makes all the difference.”
