Surgo off to a flyer with £10m contract wins across the North East

Surgo Construction has started the year winning £10m worth of new business, after landing five new contracts.

The North East construction company will begin work on all projects, ranging in sectors from affordable housing, private housing, healthcare, education and commercial office space, both this month and next.

After winning four separate competitive tenders valued collectively at £3.4m, Surgo will be working on behalf of one of the North East’s leading providers of affordable homes to rent and buy, ISOS Housing, at Longbenton, North Shields and Wallsend.

A range of two and three bedroom properties will be built and work will begin on two of the four sites in January, at North Shields and Wallsend, with the other two sites getting underway in February.

Still within the housing sector, more housing work worth £1.8m has been won in North Tyneside - this time for a private developer.

A £1.8m hospital project, also won after competitive tender, sees the Surgo team make a welcome return to tertiary healthcare at Rake Lane Hospital in North Tyneside where they will be involved in refurbishing and remodelling an existing hospital ward into a new endoscopy unit comprising endoscope theatres, washrooms, recovery rooms, wards, nursing areas and associated welfare facilities.

Moving to the Darlington area, Surgo has been appointed by the governing body of Polam Hall Free School and Sixth Form to undertake a £950k project to carry out new build extension works and refurbishment works to buildings at the existing Polam Hall School in Darlington and to provide additional general and science teaching rooms for the Polam Hall Free School. Work started in early January.

Closer to home, Surgo has been appointed by RIBA Enterprises (RIBA) to undertake the internal refurbishment, upgrade and redevelopment of The Old Post Office and Red Box Studios on St Nicholas Street, a Grade II Listed building in the city centre.

Jeff Alexander, director of Surgo, said: “We are thrilled to be getting 2016 off to such a positive start. The year ahead is looking busy and we are confident of another successful year of trading after our turnover for last year was restored to its pre-recession levels at around the £35m mark”.
