Work to begin on Crayford retail regeneration scheme
Work is to begin this month on the retail-focused regeneration of a derelict site in Crayford town centre in south east London.
Regeneration of the 31,300 sq ft site, which is located on Roman Way in the heart of the town centre, will be spearheaded by the construction of a new 18,200 sq ft Aldi food store which will sit adjacent to the current Tower Retail Park.
Plans also include three additional built units of 5,500 sq ft, 5,000 st fq and 3,000 sq ft all contained within a single building, as well as 157 car parking spaces.
The site will be directly accessible from the A207, the principal road between Bexley and Dartford.
Reading-based architects The Harris Partnership designed the new building for Aldi Stores Ltd and Gary Humphreys, Group Director at the architectural firm, commented: “We’re delighted to see this project move onto site following planning. It heralds a major retail regeneration for Crayford town centre, and the promise of jobs and prosperity on a formerly derelict site.”
The regeneration scheme secured planning permission last year and has a projected completion date of November 2016.
