Transforming accommodation for over 60s

A REGIONAL specialist building company is working with one of the UK’s largest housebuilders to improve care home provision in North Tyneside.

Boldon-based Opus Building Services, have just completed work on the on the new-build Chapelville Care Home, based in Seaton Burn and Whinstone Lodge in Monkseaton working with Galliford TRY on behalf of North Tyneside Homes.

North Tyneside Council are upgrading their sheltered accommodation portfolio to provide more modern facilities for those aged over 60. The two high-quality accommodation schemes were built through the Quality Homes for Older People PFI Scheme. Each sheltered accommodation scheme includes 31 self-contained apartments.

The new-build homes include a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments with access to either via a semi-private patio or a Juliette balcony. Residents also enjoy comfortable and welcoming spaces including large communal lounges as well as a smaller quiet rooms; a therapy room for use by health and personal care professionals such as hairdressers; landscaped communal gardens and even a guest apartment where family and friends can stay.

Chapelville and Whinstone Lodge both achieved a Breeam Excellent rating – the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings - and have first-rate security provision including perimeter CCTV with tenants controlling their own visitor access from their apartments.

Opus Building Services managed all specialist mechanical & electrical design and services installations including ventilation, the heating mains system, external and emergency lighting, emergency call systems and CCTV and plumbing - whilst sister company Opus Green collaborated with the provision of all Solar PV installations for both care homes.“
