Ward Recycling Increases Demolition Offerings Following Multi-Million Pound Squibb Contract

Ward Recycling has announced that it will be adding further personnel to its existing demolition department, following the award of further work with Squibb Group in Derby.

These additions are to ensure that the firm continues to service its current existing contracts, and future large contracts to the highest level.

The prestigious second phase materials recycling contract was awarded to Ward Recycling as part of the demolition works at the old Celanese site in Spondon, after the firm successfully completed phase one of materials processing on the project, which also amounted to a significant value.

David Ward Jr, managing director at Ward Recycling said: “After successfully completing the materials recycling contract on the first phase of the Celanese demolition project we were best placed to continue with the second phase of the project and were extremely pleased when Squibb were awarded the contract.”

Ward Recycling is now set to add to its dedicated demolition department at its site in Ilkeston from February, in a bid to deal with the increased demand for demolition support services.

The additions will include a buyer and dedicated customer services representative to ensure that both the collection services, and highest-level site liaison is maintained.

The former Celanese site, which was marked for demolition three years ago, employed more than 20,000 people making both chemicals and products such as parachutes and underwear used in World War One. After the war, the factory moved into the production of a wide range of fabrics, and more recently made filter tips for cigarettes.

Westley Squibb, operations director, at The Squibb Demolition Group said: “Ward Recycling is the first company we have ever really come across that offer routes for every material, coming off a complex project such as this.

“The prices for ferrous and non ferrous metals were key to us, however finding they were competitive on all of the various waste types has been great for site, as well as the office. This means that they are fully integrated into the project. It is certainly something we will look to utilise elsewhere.”

The demolition support department provides services for ferrous and non ferrous metals, all site waste arisings, and after two years of success in contaminated land contracting for several foreign construction projects, Ward Recycling will now offer this service to its customers through the Ward Special Projects brand.
