Passenger levels take off at Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Passenger numbers leapt again last month at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, making it the site’s 12th consecutive month of passenger growth.
Just over 300k people used the airport in January, which is 50k more than the first month of 2015 and represents a year-on-year rise of 20%.
LJLA bosses have attributed the increase to the popularity of new routes launched last year for those travelling from Liverpool, which includes services to Amsterdam and Riga.
Since the beginning of 2016, three carriers have expanded their operations at LJLA, with Wizz Air introducing services to Hungarian capital Budapest and Polish city Katowice, and Flybe offering flights to Cornwall.
2015 was the airport’s busiest year since 2012, with overall passenger numbers up by 8% against 2014’s figures.
