Sheffield video game developer to open second UK Studio in Nottingham
Sheffield-based Sumo Digital will open a second UK and third global studio in nottingham.
Sumo is a creator and developer of video game products and services, working on the global  brands and franchises for publishers and platform holders across Europe, US and Japan.
Opening at the end of March 2016, Sumoâs second UK studio aims to employ 50 people in central Nottingham, joining a team of 280 people at the firmâs existing offices in Sheffield, and Pune, India.
Carl Cavers, CEO of Sumo Digital, said: âOpening the new Sumo studio proves how serious we are about extending our core capabilities to better serve our global client base and reflects our ambition to explore new opportunities for PC, console, mobile devices and virtual reality.“
Paul Porter, COO of Sumo Digital, added: âWith GameCity, the National Videogame Arcade, local universities and a number of proven developers, Nottingham has an established and growing game development community that weâre thrilled to join and contribute to.“
NorthEdge Capital, the private equity firm focused on investing in businesses in the North of England, backed Sumo Digitalâs management team to complete an MBO from Foundation 9 Entertainment in November 2014.
Phil Frame, investment manager at NorthEdge, commented: âThe gaming industry is among the fastest growing in the UK, and is worth tens of millions of pounds to the regional economy. Having experienced enormous success in Yorkshire, the opening of Sumoâs Nottingham office will enable it to expand further and continue its fantastic growth.
âThe business has a number of exciting projects in the pipeline, and we look forward to continuing our work with Sumo as it cements its position as one of Europeâs leading game developers.“
