Jones Bros recruiting for 12 new apprentices

Jones Bros is hiring 12 new apprentices looking to start a career in construction through its award-winning training programme.

The Ruthin-based civil engineering firm is recruiting six apprentices each for its general construction operative and plant operator apprenticeship schemes.

Apprentices earn a wage from the outset as employees of Jones Bros, with training for the new recruits scheduled to begin in March.

Plant operator apprentices will learn how to use heavy construction machinery, such as forward tipping dump trucks and excavators.

The general construction operative apprentices will learn a variety of skills for the construction industry, including drainage installation and putting civil engineering technology into practice.

Applicants aged 18-24 must have an interest in construction or civil engineering, a full UK driving license, be prepared to work away from home, and have an enthusiastic attitude toward learning new skills. The closing date for applications is Monday February 22.

Apprentices will spend their first weeks at Jones Bros’ bespoke training centre in Ruthin, before putting their new skills into practice on construction sites across the UK.

John Dielhof, managing director of Jones Bros, said: “We’ve invested heavily in our apprenticeship programme in recent years, and are looking forward to welcoming our latest group of apprentices.

“Bringing through a committed and highly skilled workforce is crucial to our plans for future growth.

“We currently have our highest ever number of apprentices training at Jones Bros, and plan on recruiting 120 more over the coming four years.”

Jones Bros’ training department was shortlisted in the Outstanding Training Partner category in the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) 2015 Pride of Construction awards, having won the prize the previous year.

The contractor is also nominated in the Training Excellence category at the Construction News Specialists Awards later this month. Apprentice James Symon, who joined Jones Bros last January, is also nominated for the Apprentice of the Year prize.

Jones Bros trainees undergo Foundation Modern Apprenticeships working towards their NVQ Level 2. The company runs its scheme through Construction Skills Wales and advertises the vacancies on its website and through Careers Wales.

Founded in the 1950s and employing approximately 350 people, Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
