SIB & Sugarman Education Recruitment teach students how to find their inner entrepreneur

Manchester social enterprise Stepping into Business has teamed up with Eddie Austin, Managing Director of Sugarman Education to run ‘Enterprise Essential’ workshops at Manchester Enterprise Academy to help 16-18 year old pupils find their inner entrepreneur.

Stepping into Business teach enterprise and entrepreneurial skills in primary and secondary schools. They approached Eddie Austin, who is originally from the area and attended school in Wythenshawe, about sponsoring the weekly workshops at the Academy. Eddie recognised this as the perfect opportunity to support young adults in fulfilling their aspirations.

Dylan McCarthy, Director of Stepping into Business explains why having Sugarman Education on board is exactly what the business is about: “Having the likes of Eddie Austin sponsor and be part of the work we do is a powerful thing. When the students hear the speakers’ story first hand, it can make such a difference to the life path that the young people take. Eddie is living-proof that if you have an idea and a good work ethic, you can make exciting things happen. Our programme provides hands-on fun and practical experience of problem solving, presentation skills and how to tap into their creativity, which are all vital skills for running a business.”

Manchester Enterprise Academy is running workshops for 42 students throughout the Spring term. James Eldon, head teacher of Manchester Enterprise Academy said:

“We are delighted to take part in the Stepping into Business project and extremely grateful to Sugarman Education for their sponsorship. The students were captivated by Dylan’s and Eddie’s stories at their introductory workshop and they are really looking forward to getting started. The combination of education and business is something which we are passionate about at MEA as it brings so much from real life to the classroom.”

Sugarman Education is also sponsoring a Stepping into Business programme at Sacred Heart Primary School Baguley where Eddie attended as a child and at Halesbury School, West Midlands. He is passionate about inspiring the next generation:

“It’s a great honour to be given the opportunity to support the Stepping into Business programme, especially where it impacts on a community.”

Stepping into Business works by matching schools with businesses, who sponsor a bespoke programme for each school that can encompass everything from one-day workshops to embedded school programmes, lasting several weeks. There are also professional development programmes for Headteachers and the teachers themselves.
