Tyne & Wear company wins national business award
Jigsaw Business Group, a Tyne & Wear - based business services group, has scooped a prestigious national business award. The company took gold at the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards held in London last week in a joint bid with Applied Component Technologies, a manufacturer that specialises in lightweight technology for the automotive and aerospace markets.
The duo won the Smart Product Award, sponsored by Siemens, after Jigsaw helped Applied Component Technologies become the first UK company to enter the airline galley market.
The pair were selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics and were up against tough competition from a range of dynamic businesses, small and large, from across the UK. The judges described Applied Component Technologies as a promising winner that has risen from the ashes after turning around a tough financial situation.
The judges said that the pair had considered all aspects of the manufacturer’s new product - from weight, to efficiency, to security, to using bioresin smart materials – and there is also further scope for innovation.
Steve Spratt, CEO of Jigsaw Business Group says: “Manufacturers are amongst the most prolific and successful innovators in the UK. Applied Component Technology (ACT) had been through some tough times when we were asked to support them on this innovative project. With our established network of experienced practitioners, we were able to source and put together a cross functional new product development team to help ACT design, develop, source, produce, test and launch this revolutionary new smart galley cart.”
“This project is a great example of how Jigsaw can provide the right mix of skills and expertise to help a client deliver a time restricted and challenging project. Not only was the work delivered on time, but the results have been fantastic and illustrate how we can make a very real, measurable and sustainable impact. It is great that we are able to showcase our work through the EEF awards. Following on from our success at the EEF regional awards last November, winning this top national award is the icing on the cake and a huge compliment to our team.”
Simon Keogh, Business Manager at Siemens, says: “Applied Component Technologies, with the support of Jigsaw Business Group, is a great example of a company that has put innovation at the heart of its business. It understands what its market wants and has worked hard to design and successfully deliver a new product that demonstrates both practicality and ingenuity. This award is justly deserved.”
