US consortium moves closer to £200m Everton deal
An American consortium is moving closer to a multi-million pound takeover of Everton FC.
The deal could be concluded as early as the end of February, according to BBC Sport, with the consortium rumoured to be in talks with major EFC shareholders Jon Woods and Robert Earl, in addition to club owner Bill Kenwright.
The US group is led by John Jay Moores, the former owner of Major League Baseball side San Diego Padres, and entrepreneur Charles Noell.
Previously, the pair were looking to invest in Swansea City.
While two Chinese groups are said to still be interested in buying Everton, it is believed they would now only be able to step in should talks with the US consortium fall through.
Last month, Toffees manager Roberto Martinez voiced his support for Kenwright, saying he believes the chairman has the ability to safeguard the club’s future if he decides to sell.
