Brasilian barbecue restaurateurs reveal £1m plans to come to Newcastle

Brasilian barbecue restaurant and cocktail bar, Cabana, has announced plans to come to Newcastle.

Announcing a £1m investment that will create 40 new jobs, the expansion to Tyneside will be Cabana’s third venture outside of London.

The barbecue aficionados will open in the city centre’s Cooperative Building in Newcastle city centre, adding to its seven multi-award winning restaurants across London and two very successful openings in Leeds, and more recently, Manchester.

Launched in 2011 by renowned restaurateurs Jamie Barber (Hush, Villandry, Sake No Hana) and Brasilian-born David Ponté (Momo), Cabana had a great year in 2015 with a £15m turnover and currently employing over 200 people in the UK.

The new 4,500sq ft. restaurant will serve Cabana’s best-selling, “killer” Spicy Malagueta Chicken (fans include Oprah Winfrey and the England rugby team) and Sweet Potato Fries, along with Brasilian street food and barbecue skewers grilled fresh to order.

The site will also host a dedicated cocktail bar, offering customers authentic Brasilian cocktails, such as tropical fruit flavoured Caipirinhas (including the UK’s first Frozen Caipirinhas) alongside an array of both exotic Brasilian concoctions and classic cocktails, making the Cabana bar the perfect place to party.

Jamie Barber, co-founder of Cabana, said: “After the success of both Manchester and Leeds in the North, we can’t wait to showcase Cabana to Newcastle, and we hope it will become one of the city’s go-to destinations.

“Brasilian Food has also been dubbed the cuisine of 2016, so we are really excited about the opening in Newcastle to show off our signature Spicy Malagueta Chicken, famous cocktails and energetic Brasilian atmosphere.”
