Coventry school to benefit thanks to housebuilder

Pupils at a Coventry school are set to become all singing and dancing after receiving a donation from a leading UK housebuilder to build an outdoor stage.

Pearl Hyde Community Primary School has been awarded £1,000 courtesy of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support local groups and charities in the community.

The project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

The school, which provides for over 300 children aged between five and 11, has undertaken a range of fundraising activities including a summer fair and Christmas wrapping service, raising more than £500.

Theresa O’Hara, headteacher at Pearl Hyde Primary School which is based on Dorchester Way, said: “We applied for a grant from Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions after noticing that the children were using a concrete shed base as an impromptu stage during break times.

“Many of our children love to sing and dance and so we really wanted to build a small performance stage on the school playing field for them to use.

“In addition to money the school has raised towards the stage, the funding from Persimmon means that Pearl Hyde’s pupils will soon be singing and dancing on their very own stage. We are thrilled that we will soon have this new facility and are grateful for their generous support.”

Amanda Benjamin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “Pearl Hyde Primary School is an integral part of the community, so we are delighted to be able to support this project for them.

“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a difficult task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again, and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
