Oldham school site set for 54-home transformation

Housing and regeneration company Galliford Try Partnerships has secured planning consent to build 54 new homes in Oldham.

The firm, which markets its newbuilds under the Linden Homes brand, is targeting the former St Augustine’s School at the junction of Grange Avenue and Chamber Road.

Construction on the 4.4-acre brownfield site will commence this month.

Galliford Try’s development director, Darren Leary, said: “We’re delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted by Oldham Council for the scheme and we look forward to progressing work on the site imminently.”

As part of an agreement with the local authority, Galliford Try will aim to create 54 opportunities for local people, including jobs and apprenticeships.

Oldham Council’s cabinet member for housing, planning and transport, Cllr Dave Hibbert, said: “The granting of this planning application is good news as this plot of land has just been an empty space since St Augustine’s was demolished.

“Once finished these new family homes will help regenerate the area and will be built to the highest specification and green standards – I’m sure they will have a positive impact on the immediate and wider community.”

He continued: “This building project also supports our Get Oldham Working campaign, while also creating training opportunities and enhancing the local supply chain, which will help boost the borough.”
