Sheffield business secures new Asda supply contract for its ‘Potted Pulled Pork’

A Sheffield business with over 100 years of heritage has won a new supply contract with Asda to sell its product line - Potted Pulled Pork.

Founded in 1914, Binghams’ newest product is now on the shelves at 29 Asda stores across the Midlands and the North of England.

The business has significantly increased its Asda stores listings over the past eight years – and now supplies almost 100 Asda supermarkets and superstores in the UK.

Founded by Charles Bingham, a meat dealer in Sheffield who also sold potted beef. After serving in WWI, Charles built the first Bingham’s factory at 154 Western Road, Crookes, where the business remains today.

Binghams is now owned by its former general manager, Peter Moon and his wife Stella, who returned the business back to private ownership from Northern Foods in 2007. Under the guidance of the Moons, Binghams began trading with Asda in 2008, supplying the supermarket chain through the Yorkshire Farmers and Transfresh business hubs.

Peter Moon said: “We are very excited to launch this new product and can’t wait to find out what local people think of this locally sourced and produced quality potted pulled pork.

“We are just as proud of our new Potted Pulled Pork as we are of our first Potted Beef, which is still made to the original 1914 recipe – and all of our products are made with British meat, manufactured in Yorkshire.

“We have a fantastic relationship with Asda; its commitment to providing local suppliers with opportunities and the tools to grow is one of the reasons we’re still here today.”

Rebecca Long, Asda’s local buying manager, added: “We work closely with our local suppliers across the country to ensure that our shelves are always stocked with the freshest and most innovative produce available, so that when customers call into their local Asda store to do their big shop, they can expect to find something locally sourced and that little bit special.

“Binghams prides itself on sticking to the original 100-year old recipes, which have been doing Sheffield proud for so long and we are very excited about the introduction of this latest addition to their range of ‘meaty’ spreads, which combines the original recipe with a new popular food trend that tastes delicious.”

Binghams now sells more than 670,000 products each year with Asda and employs 20 people at its headquarters on Western Road in Sheffield.
