'Tinder for music' flies the flag in global tech competition

Two London tech startups, including one dubbed the ‘Tinder for new music’, have emerged victorious in an international pitching competition that supports up and coming tech companies.

Music discovery app Choosic and local bookstore app NearSt joined French company OnOff on the podium for the Get in the Ring Western Europe finals.

Mimicking Tinder’s swiping system, Choosic helps users discover new music and filters recommendations based on previous responses.

The pitching competition, which takes place in over 80 countries, sees startups go head-to-head as they attempt to convince an audience of investors, users and clients about the merits of their business.

The victors will now head to the world finals Medellin, Columbia.

Neil Cuthbert, principal of EyeOnStartups who hosted the event, said: “It’s exciting events like Get in the Ring that highlight the fantastic and innovative tech startups in the UK and abroad, and help bring interest and investors to the growing tech startup scene here in London.

“Congratulations to Choosic, NearSt and OnOff for their hard-fought wins and I look forward to supporting our startups as they go on to compete in the Global Final in Medellin, Colombia.”
