Women's support group receive donation from leading housebuilder
A women’s support group in Watford is providing extra training to its members after receiving a donation from a leading UK housebuilder.
Watford Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre has been awarded £1,000 thanks to Persimmon Homes North London’s Community Champions scheme.
The match-funding initiative seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.
It invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally every month.
The charity’s volunteers provide confidential face to face support for those that have been sexually abused and they also operate a telephone helpline service.
Frances Lehane, fundraiser for the centre, said: “We are delighted to be receiving £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North London. Like so many Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centres we are always in need of financial support and this donation really is of great benefit to us.
“We do not charge our support users for the work we do with them, but this donation from Persimmon will provide extra training to enable us to be there for the many women and men who need our services.”
Greg Kaye, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this centre in Watford as they help many people in the region and are of great value to their community.
“Persimmon Homes North London has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it’s always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
