BEC Saddles Up For Project At New Global Design Facility

Built Environment Consulting is celebrating after successfully completing the full design of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services at Royal Enfield’s new research and development facility at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire.

Formal planning permission has now been granted for Royal Enfield’s parent company Eicher, to build a global design, research and development base, with construction work due to start in March 2016.

Castle Donington based Built Environment Consulting won the contract through a competitive tendering process following a recommendation from the project’s architects, Architects LE1 based in Leicester, and started MEP design work in September 2015.

Director at Built Environment Consulting, Carl Ackers said: “We were absolutely delighted to win this contract for such an iconic company and it has been a fantastic design project so far. It is great to see Royal Enfield building this global design, research and development facility in Leicestershire, especially with the area’s engineering heritage.

“We carried out the full design of the mechanical electrical plumbing services within time and believe that the other parties involved in the project are all equally happy with our work.”

Architects LE1, who designed the project for Royal Enfield, recommended the chartered building services consultancy and the facility is expected to be finished in November 2016.

After starting as a bicycle manufacturer in Redditch in 1893, Royal Enfield started manufacturing motorcycles in 1901, and in 1955 established a subsidiary in Madras (now called Chennai) in India to build motorcycles for the Indian market.

In 1970 the UK operation closed its doors, but the factory in India carried on and has expanded considerably in recent years. Royal Enfield is the world’s longest-running motorcycle manufacturer, and is famous for bikes such as the Bullet, Bullet Classic and Continental GT.

Carl added: “It is always nice to win a contract through a recommendation. It is a fantastic project and a great way to start off the New Year. We just can’t wait for the construction work to start so we can see the final product towards the back end of this year.”
