Whitham Mills appointed to UK’s largest public sector waste equipment procurement of the last 10 years
Todmorden-based Whitham Mills, the waste management machinery designer and manufacturer, has been appointed by Blaenau Gwent council to provide waste processing machinery at the council’s purpose-built MRF (Material Recycling Facility) in Ebbw Vale.
Costing nearly £500k, the process machinery for the new MRF will be the largest public sector waste equipment procurement of the past ten years for a local authority recycling system.
This is the sixth Witham Mills local authority trade win in just over two years, making Whitham Mills the most successful recycling system engineering company in the UK for winning local authority tenders.
The system will process an estimated 5,619 tonnes of mixed plastics, steel cans, aluminium cans, card and paper material per annum. The new Whitham Mills designed system will be separating and baling of mixed recyclable municipal waste collected at kerbside.
A spokesperson from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council said: “The machinery supplied by Whitham Mills will allow the Council to process and bale recyclable waste through a new state of the art facility, allowing for better quality recyclable materials to be prepared ready for sale in the marketplace.”
Ben Smart, managing director at Whitham Mills, added: “Our systems are designed and manufactured right here in the UK by engineers who have dedicated their professional lives to solving problems faced by organisations with varied and challenging waste streams.
“We take great pride in our work and help our customers deliver on their promises to their customers. The system we have installed here is robust and in-keeping with the requirements of modern waste management companies.”
In a comprehensive end-to-end approach, Whitham Mills has designed, installed and commissioned the system and will provide rolling 12 month service cover along with consumables supply and fitting.
