Harcourt introduces Townhouse Hotel Manchester

Owner of a historic Portland Street property has announced a new beginning for the former Macdonald Townhouse Hotel as it becomes Townhouse Hotel Manchester.

The hotel, owned by Harcourt Developments, will become a sister venue to the multi award-winning Titanic Hotel Liverpool & Rum Warehouse, which has enjoyed unprecedented success since its launch in Liverpool’s historic Stanley Dock in July 2014.

The new hotel is a prime city centre property located on Portland Street, close to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations, adjacent to the vibrant Chinatown and Canal Street areas, as well as the historic architecture of Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Library on St Peter’s Square.

Louise Jones has been appointed as general manager at Townhouse Hotel Manchester, bringing over 20 years’ hospitality management experience to the team. Past roles include operations manager at the 4* Mercure Last Drop Village and, more recently, general manager at the flagship Holiday Inn at Media City.

Louise commented: “This announcement marks a new direction for the hotel, which we’re very excited about. We have retained the majority of staff, so guests can expect the same high quality level of service and comfort, but with a few added extras. Given the history of the building and Portland Street itself, we are carefully considering all options before any redevelopment.

“Townhouse Hotel Manchester is superbly located within the city centre and possesses great history and character. A boutique property ideal for business or leisure, which we look forward to introducing as one of the premiere boutique venues in Manchester.”

Harcourt is the driving force behind the world famous Titanic Visitor Centre in Northern Ireland and is due to open a new Titanic Hotel in Belfast in 2016, at the historic Drawing Room offices at Harland and Wolfe. This will be a further addition to the expanding brand and portfolio of unique properties.
