Barry Crux & Company complete trio of York retail market leases
Barry Crux & Company has reported a strong start to 2016 in Yorkâs retail sector.
Despite recent announcements of closures of some prominent retail businesses in the city, Barry Crux & Company has completed series of retail since the beginning of the year.
Rosie Crux from Barry Crux & Company, said: âWhilst the demand for food and drink establishments remains high, the number of recent enquiries for retail space in York is particularly encouraging. There is also a real confidence from new start businesses.“
28 Castlegate has been let to Nicholas Barker, the owner of an established local vintage clothing and gift business. 28 Castlegate, formerly a hair and beauty salon, provides larger accommodation with over 1,600 sq ft of retail space at ground and basement levels.
The unit is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and the opening of Dog & Bone Vintage is set to happen very soon. The retail unit was let off an asking rent of £32,000 per annum.
In addition, the lease relating to 40 Shambles has been assigned to Londonâs Pride Limited off an asking premium of £15,000. The new tenant will sell gifts and souvenirs to complement its existing outlets on High Petergate and Low Petergate.
Finally, Barry Crux & Company also secured the lease for 30 York Road, which has been let to Victoria Joy Beauty, an established beauty salon in York. The ground floor retail unit, which provides a net internal area of approximately 540 sq ft, has undergone its own treatment and is now open to customers. The retail unit was let off an asking rent of £11,000 per annum.
With several more retail lettings near to completion, Barry Crux & Company is hopeful that 2016 will be a good year for Yorkâs retail sector.
