Quick Hydraulics hunts Teesside base to facilitate expansion

Engineering firm Quick Hydraulics is looking to launch new base in Teesside, which could create up to 10 new jobs over the next 18 months.

Having been acquired by Altec Engineering Group, an expansion into Teesside would make sense for the North Shields firm which works with key businessed in the area such as Wilton Engineering, Cleveland Potash and Caterpillar.

Moreover, MD Andrew Esson, who hails from Guisborough, is part of a Quick leadership with strong Teesside connections, Engineering Director Alan Egglestone is from Hartlepool, Service Manager Steve Robinson lives in Normanby and Altec Group CEO Alastair Waite has long-standing business connections in the area.

Quick plan to open a base of up to 10,000 square feet, housing offices and a workshop, as they continue to diversify into new sectors beyond their traditional oil and gas market.

Explaining the plans, Esson said: “We have longstanding Teesside relationships with a number of key customers, including Caterpillar, Cleveland Potash and Wilton Engineering, and it makes sense to use our local knowledge to build on these relationships.

“We are actively reviewing potential locations on Portrack Lane, which would be an ideal base for our Teesside operations, but we retain an open mind regarding other possible locations”.

Altec CEO Waite added: “Quick Hydraulics has a strong and capable team, and we are keen to support the growth of the business. Teesside is a logical stepping stone from the company’s North Shields and Aberdeen base as we build on the real progress the company has made in recent months.

“There is strong demand for the hydraulics expertise that Quick and Altec can now offer. Our formal relationship has been good news all-round and the push into Teesside, with the local engineering jobs that will create, being the latest spin-off.”

Bill Scott, CEO of Wilton Engineering Services, added: “It’s great to hear that Quick Hydraulics are expanding into Teesside, creating more jobs within the area, and I wish them every success.

“They are currently working with us on a number of highly complicated subsea structures which are technically demanding, requiring the highest of quality and precision whilst maintaining safe working systems. We’ve been impressed by their capabilities and professionalism throughout the project.”
