New 7 year deal sees Durham County Cricket Club rename stadium

Durham County Cricket Club has announced that Dubai-based airline Emirates has extended its sponsorship through to the end of the 2022 season.

The new seven year deal means the club’s Chester-le-Street stadium will now be known as Emirates Riverside, as Emirates continues as its main sponsor.

This sponsorship agreement strengthens Emirates’ involvement in cricket which includes its global partnership with the International Cricket Board across all of their major events including the ICC World Cup and ICC World Twenty20.

Emirates is also the main club sponsor for Lancashire County Cricket Club and has the naming rights to the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Vice President, UK, commented: “As a long-standing supporter of Durham County Cricket Club and the communities it connects, we’re delighted to be continuing our partnership.

“We are proud to be associated with one of the best clubs in the country and a fantastic stadium which is globally renowned for its world class facilities.”

David Harker, Chief Executive of Durham CCC, added: “We have enjoyed a fantastic partnership with Emirates over the past six years and are thrilled to be able to extend that to 2022.

“Emirates is a company that matches our ambitions and we look forward to working closely with them over the course of the deal. We’ve also taken the opportunity to rename our ground to Emirates Riverside and pay homage to the club’s fantastic legacy here at Chester le Street.”

This commitment from Emirates will help the club continue its work in developing locally sourced, home grown cricketing talent.

Jon Lewis, Head Coach at Durham CCC, said: “This long term deal with Emirates means that we can continue our great work in player development and investment in our young talent. We have a proud record here at Durham of helping to nurture and develop talent, creating many England stars such as Ben Stokes, Mark Wood, and Jack Burnham. Our ambition is to continue to develop more world class cricketers here in the North East.”
