The Marketors install David Pearson as new Master
The Worshipful Company of Marketors, ‘The Marketors’, installed the new 2016 Master, David Pearson, and Wardens, at a special Ceremonial Court and Installation Banquet.
Pearson’s vast global sales and marketing expertise spans four decades, having held senior executive positions with some of the world’s greatest brand owners, from Sony to the Pentland Group Limited, looking after household named sports brands such as Speedo, Ellesse, Berghaus and Lacoste. Even during the early part of his career, Pearson held roles in sales, marketing and general management for corporate giants including Procter and Gamble and Mars Inc.
Pearson’s most recent corporate position was CEO of NXT plc, overseeing a wide portfolio of Intellectual Property in Sound and Touch technology. His leadership transformed the company from an R&D business to a customer focused business and improved the P&L by 40% in one year, through sales growth and cost reduction.
Pearson is also a highly experienced Non-Executive chairman, director, board mentor and the author of The 20 Ps of Marketing. For the last decade, Pearson has worked independently and has developed a portfolio of interests across the public, private and voluntary sectors. The new Master has transacted business in more than 60 countries and advised a wide range of international blue chip companies, particularly in the FMCG and consumer electronics sectors.
Pearson was the UK’s first marketer to be a Fellow of both the Marketing Society and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, while also being a Marketors’ liveryman and elected to the UK Hall of Fame for Marketing. He has also been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Bedfordshire.
Pearson said: “It is a great privilege and honour to be elected as the Master for 2016. The theme for this year is ‘Marketing for Good is Good Marketing’, developed to inspire an increase in our philanthropic efforts, particularly our Outreach programme. I want to pay tribute to those companies who get it right in their programmes of conscious capitalism, purposefulness and sustainability and show that business is both a force for good and a source of profit.”
At the most important event in the Marketors’ annual calendar, Pearson was officially installed as Master, alongside Sue Garland Worthington OBE as Senior Warden, Richard Christou as Middle Warden and Phil Andrew as Junior Warden.
Following the ceremony, there was a celebratory white tie Installation Dinner, featuring a very special guest speaker, Sir Chris Powell. A successful businessman and a force for good in the non-profit sector, Powell is currently Chair of the Advertising Standards Board of Finance and is the former CEO of advertising agency, BMP, and Chairman of NESTA.
