London’s mkodo officially launches its Newcastle Tech Hub

Mobile apps and engagement specialist mkodo officially launched its Tech Hub in Newcastle last night (Feb 25), at an opening event at The Core, Science Central.

Founded by MD Stuart Godfree and ED Sue Yoxall in 2001, the business specialises in mobile technology solutions for commerce, marketing and CRM.

The expansion to the city, which was announced in December last year, will reportedly augment the company’s thirty-strong team based in Tech City, London.

The launch event included a presence from Newcastle Gateshead Initiative whose inward investment team, Invest Newcastle, were key to mkodo’s decision to base the Tech Hub in Newcastle. Invest Newcastle is a service delivered by NewcastleGateshead Initiative on behalf of Newcastle City Council to attract and secure new investment and jobs for the city.

The firm also showcased its latest iBeacon technology solutions for asset tracking, visitor research and event interaction.

Stuart Godfree, MD, said: “We have already recruited 4 excellent team members into the Newcastle Office and have current job postings out for 4 further roles: QA Engineer, Project Manager, Product Marketing Manager and Sales Manager.

“Interested candidates should contact jobs@mkodo.com for more details. We are looking to grow the team further, in line with business requirements, through 2016.”

The office launch coincides with the release to App Store of mkodo’s latest Sports Calendar App. The App, for sports fans everywhere, is fully designed for iOS9 on iPhone, iPad and iPad Pro devices. It is a What’s On App that finds and displays when and where major sporting events are taking place over the next 12 months.

Sue Yoxall, ED, added: “The assistance we received from the Invest Newcastle was invaluable in helping us decide where to locate our Tech Hub. They were able to give us sound business intelligence to form our business case and ultimately choose Newcastle as a place to build our team.”
