Leeds Basque Restaurant Launches Own Artisan Gin

Mother’s ruin has never been more popular and so, to celebrate it’s first birthday, leading Basque restaurant Pintura Kitchen & Bar has handcrafted and produced its own special edition brand of premium gin.

Launching March 4th, the artisan gin is the perfect marriage of Yorkshire spirit and Basque passion. Bottles of the new premium brand will be on sale in the restaurant, located in Trinity Leeds, for customers to take home priced at £40.

‘Cien’, meaning ‘100’ in Spanish, will be the 100th gin to be added to the vast collection currently on offer in Pintura’s basement Gin Bar. It has been produced using the finest Spanish botanicals while keeping the restaurant’s home county of Yorkshire at its heart. Ingredients have been carefully sourced from the best suppliers with local botanicals including Yorkshire honey and honeycomb from master beekeeper Ivor Flatman.

Designed and distilled by Pintura’s bar manager, Matthew Coates, ‘Cien’ is a London dry gin that is breathtakingly smooth and full of character. Pintura’s very own mother’s ruin is a unique blend of 12 different ingredients that includes:

Yorkshire Gold tea

Spanish tomato

Yorkshire honey

Spanish lemon

Basil

Angelica root

Juniper

Orris root

Coriander seed

Olive

White pepper

‘Pintura’, Spanish for ‘work of art’, has specially commissioned a bespoke painting to feature on all fifty bottles of ‘Cien’ produced. The limited edition bottles will each show one fiftieth of the painting designed by artist Victoria Topping, making every single bottle unique.

‘Cien’ was produced at the Ginstitute on London’s iconic Portobello Road – the same site where premium gin brand Portobello Road 171 was created and is also home to London’s second smallest museum, dedicated to all things gin.

Pintura Kitchen& Bar opened it’s doors in March 2015, serving Basque and Spanish Pintxos with head chef Greg Lewis’ own unique take on traditional recipes based on his travels around the country. Pintura was recently voted runner up Best Restaurant in the Observer Food Monthly Awards.

Pintura’s bar manager Matthew Coates said: “We’re really excited to launch ‘Cien’ at Pintura Kitchen & Bar - we’ve seen a growing demand for different varieties of the spirit from customers that come in to visit us in our restaurant and the Gin Bar - so it’s great to be able to use our expertise to tap into this rapidly expanding market. We currently sell over 50 litres of our signature gin copa every month! Britain and Spain are two of the world’s biggest consumers of gin and it’s brilliant to be able to marry the two nations together with our Yorkshire/Spanish blend. We’ve taken local ingredients from Yorkshire that complement the best Basque flavours for the 100th gin to be served in our bar.”
