RSM trainee named ‘Young Accountant of the Year’

Georgina Taylor from audit, tax and consulting firm RSM in Leeds has been awarded the prestigious Sharp Consultancy ‘Young Accountant of the Year’ accolade for 2016.

The award was presented to Georgina at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. At the age of just 21, she becomes the youngest holder of the title to date.

The competition was established in 2000 and is run by the financial recruitment specialists Sharp Consultancy in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants. The awards recognise the best of the region’s accountants who are either training to be qualified or have been qualified for up to two years.

The judges commended Georgina for her commitment to her chosen career, and for excelling in each of the assessment areas, adding that she had a star quality ahead of her peers.

Georgina, who grew up in Doncaster and studied at the Hayfield School, joined RSM in September 2012. She has now passed all of her ACA chartered accountancy exams, scoring the highest mark in the region in six of her papers. She will achieve full chartered status later this year once she has completed the requisite number of client hours.

Kevin O’Connor, RSM’s regional managing partner for Yorkshire and the North East said: ‘We are all incredibly proud of Georgina’s achievement. Her performance in her accounting exams has been exceptional and she fully deserves this award. I am sure she has a very promising career ahead of her.’

Lee Sweeney, regional director at Sharp Consultancy, which has offices in Leeds and Sheffield added: ‘Georgina stood out as one of the strongest entrants we have ever had in the sixteen years of running the Young Accountant of the Year competition. When it came to the final interviews in front of the panel she excelled in each of the assessment areas, clearly proving her commitment to furthering her career and her capabilities to become an outstanding business leader of the future.’
